So, I'm sure everyone's noticed that the latest chapter releases haven't made themselves present on our forum as usual.
Unfortunately, due to a series of unfortunate events, the February issue of V-Jump was sold out before Kyte could get it, and I've searched every Asian retailer for it.
And it's gone.
The only place I could possibly get it would be Yahoo!Japan Auctions. And the cost of that, including a shipping service (because Yahoo Auctions does not ship to the US) would be a whooping $50 dollars.
I've been buying all the V-Jumps myself but that's simply a cost I cannot eat by myself. So this is where you all come in!
If every active member could chip in just $1 or even $2 to my paypal account, I'd have enough to get that issue and get it scanned. I think that's fair, right?
Does this sound like a good idea? I'd be more than happy to do it. Hell, if I could even just get half of it, that'd be better.
So shall we do this? My paypal is zidane_96 at hotmail dot com Let's hopefully get this before the next one. I do hope Kyte doesn't miss out on that one too! <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/NAC_Smiley_Pack_Default/cm.gif" alt=" " title="Cookie Monster" /><!-- s -->

That's... terrible. I'd send some money but it'll be a few days before I have any access to it...
First, just to make sure, are there no other alternatives such as other people finding the February V-Jump and scanning it in themselves? Or maybe raws from other websites? I think Siliva uses the Chinese 5D's scanlations sometimes - while it wouldn't be optimal, it'd certainly save the $50. Because that's a crazy amount to pay for something like this.
Also it is just 5D's and ZEXAL being missed out on, right?

What is paypal?
Either way, if I will be able to use it, I can send some money, although no sooner then 13th, as I won't be in city prior to then.
And that missing V-Jump is the one with Yusei vs Crow conclusion or the one with Yusei goes mad?

I do have February's V-JUMP and I'd gladly scan 5Ds and Zexal's manga, sadly I don't have a scanner. It came with the outstanding Kaz's Osiris, so I got mine from CDJapan before they were sold out. Now it's OOP everywhere.

The Chinese scans are great if they weren't a tad slow for whatever reason. They're only up to Ride 27. D: (I started on Ride 28 and was using Mako's scans)

If you sent it to someone like me or Mako, we'd be glad to scan it. I actually think my college has a book scanner than can scan two pages at once, lol. Or there might be someone you know with a scanner, or some location nearby (like a library, perhaps?) that will allow you to scan stuff.
I don't have a Paypal at the moment, but I definitely won't mind donating a couple of bucks for the magazine if we need it. Though if there's an alternative, that would be nice, too.

If no one here has the issue and can scan it for us I will gladly help out and donate Mako. While I'm not keeping up to date with the mangas anymore it sucks that you haven't managed to get your copy and I think it would be worth it for the sake of the fanbase.

I live in Spain, that's the problem. Shipping something from here to anywhere is expensive as hell. Spanish mail sucks, by the way. Last time a friend asked me to ship something from Spain to Portugal (200km from my city to Portugal) and decided to go to my local Post Office to ask for shipping rates and the price for a small packet was around €20+ (around $30). Pure robbery.
Just wondering something, how do you scan the manga pages? Do you strip them from the JUMP and then scan them with a printer? If this is not difficult I'd ask a friend if he can scan these pages for me. 600dpi is enough or way too big?

Stripping them would make it easier to clean later on when I do scanlations. But you also run the risk of having parts of the pages torn when you rip them out. If you're not comfortable with stripping them out, you can keep the pages bound and just scan it one by one--which will probably create some scanner shadow. Honestly either way for most people is fine, lol. There's pros and cons to both methods.
Honestly 600 DPI seems a tad excessive. You're gonna create some hugeass files that way. 300 DPI should be plenty.

Sadly you are not the only one who hates stuff being shipped to/from Spain. Amazon got me badly with international shipping. And wait... Correos said that to you? What the hell man!

Well it would help if people with actual money and PayPal accounts actually posted or contributed and we didn't get too derailed on Scanlation technical processes?

Sorry to hear about the trouble, Mr. Mako. x.x
NeoArkadia Wrote:Well it would help if people with actual money and PayPal accounts actually posted or contributed and we didn't get too derailed on Scanlation technical processes?
It's not really a derailment though when he's asking how hard or easy it is to scan the pages due to the possibility he can get that one issue scanned without Mr. Mako having to go through the expense in the first place. Which is very, very nice of you to look into, by the way, Elmafioso. <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/NAC_Smiley_Pack_Default/smile.gif" alt=" " title="Happy" /><!-- s -->
If that doesn't end up being possible, then the chip-in auction sounds like a pretty reasonable alternative, assuming enough other people can contribute.

I can donate. But I'd like to see if we can get alternative methods before we spend 50 bucks that we don't have to. [strike]God that makes me sound like such a prick. e__e[/strike]
And yes, thank you Elmafioso for volunteering to scan. :>

Honestly...there really is no alternative. Any online retailer now has sold out on this issue. The back orders are sold out.
That only leaves the issues floating on the secondary market, which will eventually get sold off, and then resold for an even higher price.
The value of this issue isn't going to go down, especially since it's a collector's issue with Osiris. So..we pretty much need to either get it or not. I mean, I've been looking and the fact is there aren't that many options.
And I'm already worried about missing the next one since I haven't heard from Kyte on if he got it, and its starting to sell out from retailers already. x_x

It helps with the whole 'alternatives' thing?

Correos' shipping rates are kind of funny. It's cheaper to get something shipped from the UK than shipping something from my city (Cáceres) to Madrid. Last week had to return a faulty book I got off of Amazon and returned it to Barcelona. Didn't have to pay for the return, but the ticket was €3.53 with standard shipping for something I even packet myself.

From here to six months this will sky-rocket on eBay and I'll be there to take advantage. The card is awesome, yeah, but having the Duel Art with the same art in a huge size, I don't need the card. I left that TCG/OCG drug a few years ago.

Um, I don't think we really want to be offering to buy Elmafioso's copy if there's even a chance he can sell it for profit. If he's planning on resale to E-Bay, if the idea is the six-month value of an issue that might get more valuable as it goes on it's going to be way harder on us to offer him a good deal for his issue. That's not fair at all. It's best if we just take him up on the offer of trying to get it scanned via his friend? ^^
...am I reading, like, different posts here? This was a weird response x.o

...Uh, why can't I see what he wants for it if he just expressed interest in selling it. If I'm willing to pay him what he asks for it, then both of us win and he gets the profit he wanted and I get the issue I want to get scanned along with the card.
What do you mean, he's selling it for you?
And in order to get it properly scanned the issue has to be destroyed. The pages either have to be cut out, or the the book heated so the glue melts and the pages can just be pulled out. Him scanning it that way would destroy its value.
And FYI everyone, Kyte has already stated that he'd unfortunately be unable to provide anymore V-Jumps due to him moving, so I'm going to have to find another raw provider. I think I may have someone but just so you know. If there's any lateness in that regard, that's the unfortunate reason. And I'd really like to get this issue and not have to hunt all over the internet for it.

I have no problems salvaging and redrawing pages with scanner shadow, though it would contribute to the exceeding list of delays the ZEXAL scanlations are under already. Not sure about Siliva, who's working on 5D's manga, but I'm cool.
But whatever works in the end, I suppose.

Janime's scans were never ripped from the magazine. They just kept it together and scanned it one page at a time. Scanning it with the pages separated makes it a helluva lot easier on the scanner and the cleaners, but it's not completely necessary.
Cleaning scanner shadow's a breeze for me now anyway. <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/NAC_Smiley_Pack_Default/cm.gif" alt=" " title="Cookie Monster" /><!-- s -->

So far, not really.... And It's quite frustrating especially since this is for everyone and it's not like I'm asking for more than just...a couple bucks or whatever to get this dang book purchased so it can be released to everyone. If even just half could be covered that'd make it a lot easier.
In other news, was able to pre-order April's V-Jump and I think I found someone who had March's. I'm already kinda stretched thin from that, and the prospect of having to hunt and shell out an arm and a leg for February is really....well, frustrating and makes me unhappy.

I donated a fair amount yesterday, hoping it would help speed things up and make them easier.
Anyway, for those who may want to donate and/or future reference, here's how to set up your PayPal account. It's quite simple, actually, and not as daunting it may seem. I registered an account yesterday myself, so hopefully this will help people start out.
First of all, PayPal's site is here: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.paypal.com/">https://www.paypal.com/</a><!-- m -->
It gives you the option to go with two different types of accounts, I went with the Personal one. The registration is pretty straight forward, although my phone number was accepted when I typed it in without the country code, just the regular number itself.
After that, you just verify your email, which is a simple "punch in a confirmation code" thing.
Now, PayPal gives you the option to send money to your account, or spend directly from your credit card. Now, I went with the latter, which is entering your credit card details and linking it with your account. After that, the site seemed to deduce some money from my account (around 1$), although this cost didn't seem to be the same as the cost involved in the verification process. When you verify your credit card, PayPal will deduce a specific amount of money (but a very small amount; around 2$ for me). When it does that, you should check your bank account or you receive a text message about this transaction, which has a code in its ID. Enter that code on PayPal to verify your credit card, after that your account should be verified and ready to go.
Sending money should be also simple after that. At the top of the PayPal account management page, there should be a tab for sending money, click that. It will ask if it's business related or personal. Choose personal. Then it will ask you an email address (enter Mako's email address here), enter an amount of money to send (if you use a non-US dollar currency, be aware of the currency exchange rates) and then select a type of payment. (I went for "Gift".) Then confirm these details.
You'll see another screen, with showing you the amount of money you'll be sending, any additional costs involved and telling you how this transaction will appear in your credit card transaction info and such. You'll have the option to write a short message, too. After that, re-check any details and click "Send Money".
And that's it. You're done. PayPal is very useful and can be used for a lot of things, like shopping on Steam for those who have it, so the account could be useful to have in the future too, even if you aren't going to use it anytime soon.
If you need to get in touch with me, please seek me out in the NAC Discord.

Sorry for not being around these days, but this week has been stressing.
Yesterday, I asked in the Post Office how much would cost me to send a package of the size and weight of the VJUMP to the US and guess what? UNBELIEVABLE! €57. I was right. Spanish shipping is terrible.
That's just too much for a damn issue. Not counting the $19 I spent on my issue.
As for April and March's issues, CDJapan has both on sale if you are interested:

Well I definitely wanna thank Arynis and Heather for donating, because thanks to them I was able to finally get the issue ordered. So I should be getting the February V-Jump issue by the end of this month! Horray!
Seriously, thanks a lot for you stepping up and doing that, that means a lot to me. With that I was able to afford the issue and now we can get back on track on getting this content for everyone!
Also thanks for those links from CD Japan. I got the April issue ordered, but now I can get the March one too!.

This is.... a very awesome issue. I kinda dont want to cut it up XD
I wonder, is it possible to scan it without destroying it completely? Would our cleaners be able to make it look right if I scanned it regularly?

Care to inform us why lol
As somebody who scanned a book a while back without damaging it at all, yes its possible but it will look pretty low quality and it'll be a pain in the ass for the cleaners to make it look decent.

There seems to be some kind of recap to everything in each YGO chapter, and they have these really awesome color spreads for both of them. Plus, they seem to have a lot more content for other games and shit I like that are on the reverse sides of the chapters.
It seems... like a real collectible issue. Not your average issue of V Jump.

Mako, why don't you do a normal scan on a couple of pages and post them and let the cleaners look at them to see if they're workable? If the issue is that special it would indeed be a shame to pull it to bits (and after the trouble you had in getting it, it's not as if you could get another one to keep in mint condition).

That's a good idea, I'll give it a scan tomorrow!
Omg, there are some...really funny looking gag omake with YGO 5Ds, Zexal, and even one with Yugi and Atem. They look rather hilarious.
One features, Crow, Rua, and Ruca...and the other features Yuma, Astral, and Kaito. And then there's another with Misawa.

You don't have to tear it apart. Like I already mentioned (I think), Janime's scanners used to keep the book intact while they scanned it. I'm not sure if you're going to scan it in the same style Mako, but the main issue with keeping the binding intact is the scanner shadow that shows up. Which...typically I can clean fairly easily.
This isn't the greatest example, but it'll do its job. 5D's Ride 13, back when we were on Janime.
Original: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://i.imgur.com/i3aHe.jpg">http://i.imgur.com/i3aHe.jpg</a><!-- m -->
New: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://i.imgur.com/45UXz.jpg">http://i.imgur.com/45UXz.jpg</a><!-- m -->
As you can see, the original page has a bit of scanner shadow on the right side. I can clean stuff like that up. This page isn't the greatest example because there wasn't much to clean. I just sorta picked out a random raw page and cleaned it on the spot. XD But it gets the point across.
Mako, if you weren't planning on scanning those little extra comics, could you? I wanna see if I can translate them and post them up. I think it'd be nice. XD
